Goodbye, Peter!!

"My 8 months working as an English Language Assistant  in Portada Alta has been an experience – which I am really grateful for. It was challenging but rewarding. I met some great people along the way that I will be sad to say goodbye too. I loved seeing the students progress and develop their English. It was very encouraging to see the students engage with my classes and show a real passion for learning English. The team at Portada alta were very welcoming and within a few weeks I really felt at home. Thank you for everything!"

30th January, Day of Peace

Peace flows into me
As the tide to the pool by the shore;
It is mine forevermore,
It will not ebb like the sea.

I am the pool of blue
That worships the vivid sky;
My hopes were heaven-high,
They are all fulfilled in you.

I am the pool of gold
When sunset burns and dies –
You are my deepening skies;
Give me your stars to hold.

Bye, bye, Giovanna!!

"My 2nd year in Spain has been a positive experience. I feel grateful to have this opportunity to grow professionally and personally again. The high school in Malaga was very different to the one I was at in Cadiz. It was nice to enjoy a change and the teachers at IES Portada Alta put a lot of effort into the Bilingual program to ensure that it is effective and organized and that you are utilized in the classroom. I can confidently say that the kids are warm and friendly and want to make you feel welcome throughout the year."

Good luck, Giova!

Welcome, Giovanna!!

 Nuestra auxiliar se presenta...

    Hola! My name is Giovanna, I´m 24 years old and I am from central Pennsylvania, - United States of America. I graduated from a university in Pennsylvania in 2019. I am passionate about culture, art, food and the environment. I am half Argentinean and half American. This is my second year as an auxiliar in Spain. My last year was spent in Cadiz. While I loved it, I wanted to experience a bigger place with more opportunity so I requested Malaga. It has been very nice so far and I feel as though the province has a lot to offer. My time in Spain has been a very positive experience overall.

    I have learned a lot about myself and grown as a person. Spanish children are a lot of fun and I enjoy working with them a lot. I am constantly amazed by their warmth. I´m happy to experience a culture long-term outside of the United States because Spain values many different things and has a completely different lifestyle to the one I am used to. I have been lucky enough to travel around Andalucia. This year in Malaga I hope to grow even more as a person and develop more valuable skillsets and travel to even more regions of Spain!

See you soon, Stephanie!!

Hello!

I'm Stephanie, the English language assistant at IES Portada Alta this year. It has been a wonderful year working with the teachers and student at this school on practicing their English conversation and grammar!

Eight months ago, I arrived in Málaga from the United States with little understanding of Spanish and no idea what to expect of my coming period as an English assistant in Spain. I was blown away by the warm welcome I received!

Highlights of the year have included working with the students in different subject areas, from maths to physical education to geography and history. I've had the opportunity to present topics like holidays in the United States (Halloween was a particular favorite!) and information about my home state, Arizona.

We've had the opportunity to visit some incredible cities and sites in Andalucía like Antequera (and the Dolmens), El Torcal and Granada. The Alhambra was amazing to see in person!

Luckily, I was given the chance to extend my stay in Málaga and I will be returning to IES Portada Alta in October to spend another year with the staff and students here! See you all in the autumn!

Nuestra auxiliar, Stephanie, se presenta

Hello! My name is Stephanie, and I’m excited to be the new English language assistant at IES Portada Alta this year. I’m 24 years old and American, from the state of Arizona, which is an arid, gorgeous state in the southwestern United States.

I come from a town north of Arizona’s capital city, Phoenix. My hometown is called Cave Creek and only has a population of 5,500 people. It’s a very small, cute town full of cowboys, ranches and outdoor areas perfect for hiking and camping (some of my favorite things to do!).

At university in Arizona, I studied Journalism and French and worked at a newspaper in Phoenix. After university, I lived in France for two years, working as a language assistant at a secondary school near Toulouse. It was a great experience, and made me interested in working as a language assistant in other countries, as well, which is why I’ve come to Spain!

During my free time, I enjoy reading, writing, photography, theatre, spending time outdoors, watching live music and traveling.

Here in Málaga, I’m excited to work with the students at IES Portada Alta to practice and improve their English, and, of course, I’m hoping to improve my own Spanish throughout the year.

Richard, nuestro auxiliar se marcha! :(

¡Muchas gracias otra vez y mucho gusto conoceros! Un abrazo,  Rich 😊"

We wish you all the best!!

Richard, nuestro auxiliar, se presenta

Hola!

"My name is Mo Alvarez and this year I worked as an English Assistant in Portada Alta. I am from New Orleans, Louisiana in the United States. I studied History and Anthropology and like to teach. This year I had the pleasure of teaching many different subjects like Math, History, Science, Music, Physical Education, and more. I was also very lucky to have amazing bilingual teachers like Dani, Rosa, Inma, Chus, Raquel, Lorena, Lourdes, and Mayte to help me! We have had a lot of fun this year playing volleyball, learning games, singing, reading and laughing all while learning English! Mo, our language assistant

Nuestra nueva auxiliar se presenta. ¡Bienvenida, Mo!

Hello! My name is Maranda Alvarez, but everyone calls me Mo. I am from New Orleans, Louisiana in the United States. I am 24 years old and have an incredible family! My dad, Norberto is from Cuba so I know a little bit of Spanish, but I’m trying to really improve this year. My mom, Cathy is an awesome mom and my two sisters, Jennifer and Tori are the best anyone could ask for. I have 5 nieces and nephews who are my entire heart and soul! So leaving them again was tough. This is my second year as a language assistant in Spain. Last year I taught in Albox, Almeria and truly enjoyed my experience so I decided to return for another year. I chose Malaga for the climate, the beach, and the airport. I love to travel so the airport was very important for me! Other than traveling, I love to play volleyball and do anything that involves adventure, like skydiving! Fun fact: I used to work at Disney World in Orlando, Florida! So I’m constantly looking for new adventures and I can’t wait for ours!

 ¡Hola!
