Recibimos a otro auxiliar americano, Scott Jorgenson. Os copio aquí lo que supuso su paso por nuestro centro.
Hello!
My name is Scott Jorgenson, and I am the
Auxiliar de Conversación at Portada Alta this year! I’m from Brookings,
South Dakota in the United States and went to college in Lincoln,
Nebraska. I have always been fascinated with learning about other
cultures, languages, people, and history and get to do all of those
things first hand here in Spain! In my free time I like to hang out
with friends, practice my Spanish, work with a track club here in
Málaga, and of course enjoy the amazing weather! This is my second year
as an Auxiliar, and first at Portada Alta. Last year I worked in
Galicia at a primary school called Manuel Sueiro. While I loved my time
and the people there, especially friends, the students, and the staff, I
thought with just one more year to go in Spain, I should see another
part of the country… and I COULD NOT be more happy with my choice to
come to Andalusia and be with all of the wonderful people at Portada
Alta!
My experience here has been incredible so
far. Everyone has been very friendly and welcoming, which as a
naturally shy-ish person, moving halfway across the world, has been very
much appreciated. I have loved working with all of the different
classes and teachers, and, even if they don’t think so (or want to admit
it), am amazed at the level of English skills the students have.
Coming from a colegio last year, and from the United States,
where we don’t begin studying foreign language until almost high school,
it always amazes me to see how much the students learn, and that they
are learning not just English, but Math, Science, Social Studies, and
Music in English! Furthermore, I’ve taken a trip back to high school as
well, since Mayte has been kind enough to let me sit in on, and learn,
in her Contemporary Spanish History Class. I can’t say that I always
catch all of the phrases and words, but little by little I’m learning
more and picking up some random vocabulary on the way!
With only a few months left to go in my
time at the school, I’m looking forward to continuing to work with all
of the students while learning from them and the teachers as well. Some
of my favorite moments at school are those in which we are exchanging
how things are said, done, etc. in English and Spanish. It’s a great
way to learn and fun to see the similarities and differences between the
two cultures. I’ve loved my time here so far and look forward to the
rest of the school year as well!
ScottPS I’m going to put in a shameless plug for the blog I write about some of my adventures and random happenings here in Spain. So if you want to practice your English feel free to check it out at http://witwscott.blogspot.com.es !
